2026 GA-FIT AUCTION for Voluntary Long-Term Irrigation Suspension
**OPEN FOR BIDS**
In September 2026, GA-FIT is hosting a one-time auction for long-term contracts for voluntary irrigation suspension. The auction is open for bids on 30-year voluntary irrigation suspension contracts until September 16, 2026. Any farmer who has an agricultural water withdrawal permit for surface water in the Flint River Basin in Southwest Georgia can submit a bid. Bids will be evaluated and contracts will be offered in late September. Lump sum payments will be offered on these contracts in October 2026.
This is a unique opportunity. If you are interested in submitting a bid, please contact Mark Masters at 229-854-4258 or mmasters@h2opolicycenter.org
2022 & 2023 GA-FIT AUCTIONS for Voluntary Irrigation Suspension
GA-FIT is working to improve drought response capabilities in Georgia. In 2022 and 2023, GA-FIT took bids on three incentive contracts for voluntary irrigation reduction or suspension for those growing seasons. The data collected helped us to learn more about how to offer effective incentives for voluntary irrigaiton suspension during drought periods. The results will help in the development of the Lower Flint Regional Habitat Conservation Plan.
The project is now complete. It was a big success. Thank you to everyone that participated. A summary report on the outcomes of the project is available at the link below.
Thank you to all participants in the 2022 and 2023 auctions!
